Eastern Creek Tasman Revival

With the racing season coming to a close in Europe, the urge to race doesn’t extinguish for Greg Thornton whilst the snow falls.

No, we temporarily move onto the southern hemisphere and join in the action taking place in the Tasmin Revival Series down under.

This year saw Greg getting two invitations to drive cars down in Australia. Something to do with being crowned FIA Historic Formula One World Champion no doubt!

The first of the two loaned cars was The 1962 Lynx Formula Junior of Ian Bailey.

Ian has owned the car for good number of years and was only too happy to see the car being put through its pases by Greg. Racing in the M & O Sports Racing Championship Greg managed to bring the car home mid field several times. Not a bad result given that there are some much bigger, faster cars in that championship than the plucky little 1100 Ford engined Lynx!

Secondly there is a 1966 Renmax Formula Vee very kindly loaned to Greg by Tony Paynter also from Australia.

Tony was all too happy to see a top name in single seater racing take the controls of his machine. After all, how many opportunities do you get to have a World Champion drive your car?

Although a little bit less powerful that what Greg is used to in Historic Formula One and F5000, he still thoroughly enjoyed the weekends races in the car.

They favour having many short ‘sprint’ style races over two longer length style races like we do in Europe but that suits the car just fine and leads to some spirited driving right from the outset.
