Redstar Raceway Historic Tour – South Africa

We had an amazing time in South Africa where we were guests of racing driver Collin Ellison. We were involved in 2 races the Alfa Vs Merc Challenge where Greg was driving a 1970 Alfa Romeo GTAM and also the Pre 90 SGT/Pre 80 Saloons/ Classic TB A-E series where Greg shared the race with Collin in a 1971 Chevron B19.

The first race was the Alfa Vs Merc Challenge which saw Greg Qualify in 5th and Collin Qualified 2nd in the 1970 Alfa GT Junior . Both with great qualifying time topping their classes which was just the start of a great race series for both drivers. Bot races for this series was on Friday both drivers did were still racing the wave of adrenaline when they when into the first race which saw Greg finishing 0.400 second behind Collin who took 3rd place, Race 2 saw Collin put in a great performance and take the 2nd step on the podium finishing 2nd. Greg didnt manage to get through the pack this time finishing the race in 5th but was 2nd in class.

The Pre 90 SGT/Pre 80 Saloons/ Classic TB A-E series saw Greg and Collin team up in the 1971 Chevron B19 and what a team they made! Qualyfing in 1st place 3.885 seconds ahead of the rest of the pack and that seem to be a trend for the rest of this series. The first lap was a shock when Greg dropped down into r3d place by the end of the lap but managed to work his way through the pack back up to 1st place by lap 3 and stayed there until the chequered flag finishing 5.151 second in front of 2nd place Peter Jenkins. In race 2 saw the same pattern as race 1 where Greg and Collin dropped down to 2nd in the 2nd lap but fought their way back to first place and took top step on the podium for the 2nd time this weekend.
